Summary

The wooden barquentine 'Lochiel', 227 tons, in an unidentified port [wooden 3 mast schooner (officially) caption says brigantine, 227 tons, ON65361. 113.4 x 24.1 x 12.6. Built 1875 Stephen and Forbes, Peterhead. Came to Brisbane owners from Peterhead in 1883. Donkin and Howes, registered Brisbane Oct. 1886 to owners in Bundaberg, Queensland. Finally owned by Charles E Young. Broken up in 1907. Whilst in Australia usually associated with the labour trade supplying native labourers to the Queensland sugar plantations].

From the volume titled 'Australian Owned Sailing Vessels'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
